Musings on Art® is a direct importer of Soviet Realism, Russian Impressionism and the Leningrad School of Painting Master artist Dmitry Ivanovich Maevsky is most famous for his portraits and lyrical landscapes. He was born May 17, 1917 in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1935 Maevsky began his studies at the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. From 1937 to 1939 Maevsky studied under Isaak Brodsky, who was the director of the Academy of Fine Art in Leningrad. In 1939 Maevsky took part in the Great Patriotic War and was awarded a medal for his bravery. After the war he continued his studies with artists Piotr Buchkin and Alexander Kharshak. Since the mid 1950s he was constantly involved in art exhibitions of the Leningrad artists. In 1955 Dmitry Maevsky was admitted to the Leningrad Union of Soviet Artists. Since the mid 1960s, Dmitry Maevsky lived and worked in the rural village of Podol, in the Tver region outside of Moscow. He has exhibited in Japan, Russia, France, USA, Italy and England. Maevsky died on July 23, 1992 in St. Petersburg. His paintings reside in art museums and private collections throughout the world.
